East African Countries under its East African Community had workshop on Cyber laws, E-justice and E-Security, which involve different stakeholders from different countries.
Main areas of discussion was the establishment of the legal framework of the e-Government.
The Regional e-Government initiative is a program that aims at using ICTs to transform the delivery of government services for the betterment of the people of East Africa. The complexities of realizing the vision of the regional e-government program necessitates the creation of a suitable framework and strategy at regional and national levels for meeting effectively the challenges posed by management of technology, resources (both human and financial) and implementation.
The Workshop identified Cyber Laws and e-Justice as a key cross cutting issue that needs to be in place for the successful implementation of e-Government applications in East Africa. Further, workshop identified Information Security as yet another critical cross cutting issue that need to be addressed as a matter of urgency as it would form part of the legal framework for the enforcement of the cyber laws.
The meeting has attracted more than eighty senior government officials responsible for the legal and security dockets from EAC Partner States. Participated at the workshop were ICT experts from the region and a delegation of e-Laws and e-Security experts from the Government of Canada .
During the workshop sessions participants had chance to see live demonstrations on the e-Security threats by e-security company Agumba Computers Limited based in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania through the company experts Hans Peter Merkel of Germnay, Mrs,Fausta Koyi and Mr. Mniko Ibrahimu.
