 Back to overviewDate: 2006-06-12 20:09 Author: Nelson Chamba The Mozambican ITs experienced a new and strange felling for the first time, which was in the Hackers Night. It was the first time an event like that took place in Maputo, Mozambique where some one shows in public what the world HACKING really means. It was a really wonderful night and unique feeling at the Eduardo Mondlane University huge amphitheatre. It started exactly at 17:30h and the scenario created included 1 server (bear bone), 2 laptops, 2 beamers projecting simultaneous the victim and the suspect machine connecting to the small switch without online access. The advertisement was made via a website www.ncc.uem.mz and the registration via a e-mail sent direct to the e-mail (csu@uem.mz). The information spreaded fast and in 2 day the registration mail account was giving a log of 78 users registered. The website was visited by most than 10 users. The all Maputo city was just talking about this event, there were e-mail going around, SMS talks in the streets and at the schools and so on. Thulani IT Specialist from South Africa opened the night introducing the all group, Ms. Christiane Weber from InWEnt, Hans Peter Merkel the IT Security Specialist and the 3 IT Specialists Nelson Chamba, Ricardo Taca and Celso Timane who rolled the all hackers night. They demonstrated two topics, first one was how to hack a Windows 2000 and gain administrator rights using exploits available in the internet and second topic was how to hack an APACHE Web server through CGI vulnerability, send Trojans and gain root access to the machine. The participants were not believing in what they were watching in that night, Akil Mussa, on of the participants talking with on of the hackers said “is it really true what I’m seeing or you built it already and are making just demo for us”. After the event the participants asked when and where the second hackers night will take place. Now the Mozambican team is in charge of organizing the second hackers night.
