Back to overview

Meraldina Paula Mazivele

Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique

The Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) is the major public university in Mozambique and was founded in 1976.The ICT support at the university and also to the Government departments, is provided by the Center for Informatics of UEM (CIUEM).

Academic Information System for UEM

    Field of Application
  • Universities (UEM)
  • Academic institutions (public and private)
    Technology
  • Operating system: Debian Linux
  • Programming language: PHP
  • Database: MySQL
Basic
concept
At the moment, UEM has a Database containing of various information, like student profiles. However the information is not yet remotely manageable. That means that in order to update and manage the database, the operator must be physically there. Another drawback is that in order to introduce the data in the Databases, the information has to be sent by paper, fax or mail, to where the operators are in charge. This approach is not cost-effective, that's why the main aim of this project is to provide to the university a tool that will reduce the information processing time and of course the transport costs, thus having the productivity increased.
Detailed Description
DAISUEM is a web application to be implemented at UEM. It will enable students and university staff to access the information related to them, which means that the view of each user is composed of only the relative components (functions). It will also allow for remote information Read and Write access and management. For instance, the students can view their personal and academic profile information without submitting a request, like it is with the current system.

„With this project the University will have a flexible DB management and reduce costs and paper work.”
