Basic
concept
The Malawi Polytechnic Library and its users are facing a number of problems. These include shortages of materials, security of library materials is compromised, accessibility of books is proving to be difficult by some students and also lack exchange of information in expert knowledge. Therefore the main aim of this project is to address these problems by offering on-line facilities.
Detailed Description

The project is a web-based system which will be used by the Malawi Polytechnic students. It will facilitate services like on-line searching of library materials (currently on books), on-line booking of books and also reading e-books.

There are three user groups within the project. The Administrator who has the overall user right s over the e-library. The administrator will be able to create book categories, add, edit and delete books from the library and also add/enrol new users to the library database. The librarian who is not much different from the administrator, will not be able to register users to the library but will be responsible for checking who has reserved what book, checking out and checking in borrowed materials, and printing reports towards that. Lastly its the ordinary user (who in this case mostly will be students) will have access to searching facilities, making on-line book reservation and having access to on-line reading materials.
